Discharge Instructions
Before you are discharged from Algonquin Road Surgery Center Center, your physician will provide specific instructions regarding your at-home care. The following reminders are offered in the interest of your comfort and safety:
- You will not be able to drive yourself home following surgery. You should arrange for a caregiver to drive you home and
stay with you for the first 24 hours as you recover from anesthesia and your procedure.
- Follow your physician's instructions regarding diet, rest and medication.
- Take it easy until your physician says you can return to your normal routine.
- Do not drive, operate machinery or power tools, drink alcoholic beverages or take any medications not prescribed by your physicians for at least 24 hours following surgery.
- It is natural to experience some discomfort in the area of the operation. Depending upon the anesthesia you receive during surgery and pain medication taken in the hours following, you may also experience some drowsiness or dizziness. Make sure the Pharmacy filling your new prescriptions is aware of all current medications you are taking.
- Contact your physician if you feel you are having problems after discharge. If your doctor is not available,
call the nearest hospital emergency room.
