Preparing For Surgery
We recognize that the prospect of a surgical procedure can be stressful. Please be assured we will do everything possible to make your experience here positive and comfortable. Our goal, in fact, is to provide quality, cost-efficient surgical care with 100 percent patient satisfaction.
You will receive a phone call from a member of our nursing or anesthesia staff. If, for some reason, we are not able to reach you, please contact us at (847) 458-1246 and ask for a Pre-op Nurse. It is very important that we speak with you before surgery.
Prior to your procedure, you must follow the safety procedures below. Failure to do so may result in your operation being delayed or cancelled.
- DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING after midnight the night before your surgery unless your doctor or anesthesiologist instructs otherwise. This includes food, liquids, water, candy, gum and chewing tobacco. Also, do not smoke after midnight the night before surgery. Not following these instructions can cause serious complications.
- When you are contacted by the Pre-op Nurse from the Surgery Center she will instruct you on which daily medications should be taken the day of surgery.
- If you take blood thinners, or if you take aspirin or ibuprofen daily or frequently, please tell the surgeon.
- Do not bring jewelry or other valuables except a photo I.D. and insurance card.

Surgery for Children
Children are encouraged to bring a favorite soft toy, stuffed animal or blanket with them the day of surgery. Parents are required to stay with the child while he or she is in the preoperative and postoperative areas. Parents will not be allowed in the operating room. If you would like a tour for you and your child, you may schedule one by contacting the center at the above number.
Parents must remain in the building while surgery is in progress. A parent or legal guardian must accompany patients under the age of 18. Legal guardians must provide proof of guardianship.
