General Surgery Preparation

Preparing Your Child for Surgery

Help ease yours and your child’s anxieties by following the suggestions below to be as prepared and informed as possible. Good preparation will help you both feel more comfortable on the day of surgery.

Contact us and schedule your visit

If you would like a tour for you and your child, you may schedule one by contacting us by phone or email. Our contact information can be found here. Additionally, children are encouraged to bring a favorite soft toy, stuffed animal or blanket with them the day of surgery.

We’re here to help

Our medical team has extensive experience educating both parents and children on children’s medical procedures. We are happy to recommend age appropriate reading that will help ease any fears they may have and are always here if you or your child have questions or concerns. Our priority, as always, is to make your child’s experience as comfortable and positive as possible.

Staying with your child

While parents will not be allowed in the operating room, they are required to stay with the child while he or she is in the preoperative and postoperative areas. Parents must remain in the building while surgery is in progress. A parent or legal guardian must accompany patients under the age of 18 and provide proof of guardianship.
